| Some things to consider when investing in a serious space reorganization project: |
- Do some research on available storage alternatives just so you will have a better idea of what is possible. Then think about your space, your stuff, your style and make a list of the problems with your space. The more you know about what you would like, and how you would like your space to function the better job a professional can do to meet your needs.
- Use an experienced professional company, one that tries to identify and meet your specific needs, and stands behind its work and its products.
- Know your priorities, and be open to possibilities that you may not have considered. Drawer space, for example, in a master closet (for socks, underwear, lingerie, hosiery, etc.) can be very useful, especially if the closet connects directly to the master bath. With tall ceilings there may be the opportunity for triple hanging or extra shelf space. Shoe cubbies can be used to store twice the number of pairs of shoes in a given amount of space. Don't hesitate to ask the designer if there is something that you really want.
- Everyone operates with a budget in mind. You are probably no exception. When comparing proposals from multiple companies, design differences can make a big difference in cost. Don't be afraid to ask for help in comparing designs.
- Beware of meaningless claims, such as "Free Installation" and "Lowest Price Guaranteed". No company's installers are volunteers. Labor is always included in the quoted price unless it is specifically excluded. We are often less expensive than our competitors when compared fairly, but that is not our first priority. Real value is a combination of product quality, design excellence, professional installation and project cost.
- Storage spaces are some of the most personal areas in the home. Your closet is about as private a space as there is. The primary goal of any competent (and properly motivated) professional should be to make your space work better for you. If you don't feel that is the case, talk to someone else.
